Corporate Council Established
The Corporate Council is NABN’s link to the vendors who provide equipment and supplies for bariatric patients. The Council provides us with support in our conference activities and also advice regarding programs, marketing and business matters. We provide them with an opportunity to link with nurses across the country as they develop and market new products for our patient population. The Corporate Council chair is also an ex-officio member of the NABN Board of Directors. We have established a separate section of this website for our Corporate Council.






NABN Welcomes New Officers
New officers of the National Association of Bariatric Nurses were inaugurated at the fall meeting and conference.


President
Laurie McGinley, MS, CNS-BC, APN, CBN
Laurie is the Bariatric Nurse Manager at Western Bariatric Institute of Reno, NV. Laurie has served as Vice President and President Elect of NABN. She has worked in the hospital setting as well as office based.



President-Elect
Sharon Sarvey, RN, PhD
Sharon is a faculty member in the College of Nursing at East Carolina University. Her specialty is pediatric obesity. She has presented at several NABN annual conferences about both her own experiences with bariatric surgery and the nursing care of obese children.


Vice President
Laura Baldwin, RN, CBN
Laura is the Director of Bariatric Services for BSM Consulting. Ms. Baldwin provides support to BSM and corporate Clients in all aspects of bariatric practice management, including identification, development, and implementation of resources to improve the quality and efficiency of programs. She is experienced at development and management of multidisciplinary bariatric programs, with a strong background of clinical expertise in the bariatric surgery field.
Laura has been a member of NABN since 2006.


Secretary
Melissa Weede, MSN, APN
Melissa has 20 years experience as a registered nurse in a variety of specialties. She joined the Western Surgical Group/Western Bariatric Institute in 2003. Melissa is board certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.


Treasurer
Susan B. Butler, RN, MSN, CCRN, CEN, CBN
Women’s Heart Health Coordinator
Susan B. Butler has been a nurse for more than 30 years. Her early career work included emergency and neurosurgical nursing. In 1986, she was hired as one of the 8 original flight nurses for AirCare, the air ambulance program at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Nurse.  In 2003, she helped to develop the surgical weight loss program as a nurse coordinator at Wake Forest Baptist. She is a charter member of the NABN and is a certified bariatric nurse, as well as a CCRN and CEN.
Most recently, Susan has accepted a position as the Women’s Heart Health Coordinator and is developing the women’s cardiovascular education program. She continues to promote the values of a healthy lifestyle and is interested in surgical and non-surgical obesity management and exercise.
She has a Master’s degree from UNC-Greensboro in Nursing Education.
