Research Council

Focus on Nursing Research
This year, for the first time, the NABN announced a research award. Sponsored by Hill-Rom, the goal of this award is to encourage nursing research on the care of the morbidly obese patient and family. After a review of applications by an NABN committee, two recipients were selected. They were Douglas Sutton, EdD,ARNP, NP-C whose research title was Life After a Surgical Weight Loss Intervention: The Lived Experience and Patricia McAllen, RN, PhD© , CCRN whose research title was The Relationship of Eating Self-Efficacy on Weight Loss Maintenance in Gastric Bypass Patients. Both agreed to present the results of their research at next year’s conference.
We also began this year a Research Council. This group will act as a resource and discussion group for nurses who are interested in nursing research. It will also make recommendations to the Board about the research prize winners in future years. We are developing a separate section of the web site to highlight the research council’s work.
